General guiding goals are important but it's also important to be specific and practical. If everything is a "priority" than nothing is a priority. So here are some ordered action items in a few categories, along with how they connect to my platform priorities. Some of these are multi-year projects or ongoing and many can be implemented quickly with minimal budgetary impact.

Affordability

  • Work with staff to set dedicated (shorter) timelines for development stages and improve transparency of requirements (Transparency, Economy, Development). Timeline: short-term.
  • Strategic upzoning of commercial, mixed use, and high density in the determined areas per the OCP (Economy, Development). Timeline: medium-term.
  • Work to reduce requirements for small scale projects - like family subdivisions and in-law suits (Development, Economy). Timeline: medium-term.

Infrastructure

  • Extend sewer area to Billings Spit (Environment, Development). Timeline: multi-year.
  • Throup Road Connector (Safety, Transportation). Timeline: multi-year.
  • Grant Road Multi-use trail/sidewalk (Safety, Transportation). Timeline: multi-year.

Safety

  • Mandate police reports follow a consistent format and are submitted in advance of meetings to enable proper review by council and community (Safety, Budget, Transparency). Timeline: short-term.
  • Implement traffic calming measures at the critical locations of Sooke River Road at Fred Milne Park, Edward Milne Road and Whiffin Spit Road (Safety). Timeline: short-term.
  • Work with Ministry of Transportation and Transit to improve the Otter Point to Maple Avenue stretch of West Coast Road/Highway 14's pedestrian safety (Safety). Timeline: medium-term.

Transparency

  • Improve development tracker to provide more useful information (Transparency). Timeline: medium-term.
  • Be a responsive councillor - regardless of whether the answer is "no," all residents deserve a response (Transparency, Governance). Timeline: medium-term.
  • Improve OCP, particularly in terms of the procedure that builds the next draft to ensure more feedback is received and acted on (Transparency, Governance, Affordability). Timeline: medium-term.
