Thank-you everyone for your faith in me and the fantastic conversations at the door - made it to about 5500 doors and around a thousand conversations - would've loved to make it to all doors but didn't quite budget enough time. Funny thing I said to Kevin at the last all candidates meeting at Journey Middle School that I was giving him 60% chance over Al and the vote ratio mayorally ended up being 58% to 42%. Even though I was personally disappointed with my results, good to know the only thing I was solidly predicting I was accurate on. I am quite pleased by the increased voter turnout compared to 2022.
Thanks to all the people that volunteered their time and especially to my wife for taking on so much of the toddler duties during the last couple months. Thanks to all the people with positive words. Thanks to all the candidates for running - it was a pleasure and I enjoyed interacting with everyone and debating ideas. I hope to see everyone stay involved politically. Regardless of what we've all said, we stood forward because we wanted to do what we believed was best for Sooke.
I certainly know I'll still be in council chambers - just at the other side of the table. The only great thing personally, is this means I can keep taking my toddler to council. If I was on council I would feel I couldn't ethically bring him but in the public side? Oh yeah I'll continue to bring him and leave early if he's being disruptive!
Thanks for a great election!
